The Apex Harness - Fitting, Features & More

What is the Apex Harness for?

The Apex Harness is a lightweight and ergonomic harness, designed for freedom of movement. Weighing less than 200g*, it has a gentle and light fit, making it a brilliant option for dog's who are gear-shy and don't usually like wearing a harness. It does not cover much of the dog or dig in anywhere. It doesn't hold water so it quick-drying and great for water lovers, it also has an extra-long chest plate and a very narrow fit, making it suitable for breeds that often cannot wear "standard" harnesses such as HPR breeds like vizslas and Weimaraners, Dalmatians and sighthounds

What's the correct fit for an Apex Harness?

The Apex Harness fits quite differently to other styles of harness. The fixed neck section allows for padding all the way around, and creates a deep "V" shape that adapts to most shapes and sizes of dog. It is normal to have a small gap at the front of the harness when there is no tension at all, especially when the harness is new. When you attach a lead to the harness, and gently pull back to create some tension, the harness should sit so the "V" point is clearing your dog's throat to ensure no digging in, and the straps around the neck are above the shoulder blades, for full range of movement. Importantly, there should be a gap behind your dog's elbow/"armpits" of 3-5 flat fingers.

What's the difference between Apex and Adventure?

  1. Adventure Harness has huge adjustability, including an adjustable neck. This makes it more suited to dog's that may spook and attempt to back out** or growing puppies, whereas Apex is more suited to adult dogs that are not at risk of backing out
  2. Apex Harness is lighter weight, thinner, and has much less fabric covering your dog. This might mean slightly less control if you have a wiggly dog, but is a brilliant option for dog's who are gear-shy and uncomfortable with standard harnesses. If you have a very wiggly dog, we suggest Adventure Harness
  3. The Adventure Harness is fully adjustable and fits most dogs, but it can sometimes be too short in the body for sighthounds, and other breeds with narrow and deep chests. The Apex Harness is much more narrow and slim, and has a much longer chest plate to accommodate these breeds. It still works for other breeds too though!
  4. The Adventure Harness has a tough and thick fabric, brilliant for those dogs who spend half their lives in brambles. Apex Harness has a durable and more water-resistant and quick drying material, best for water dogs!

The Adventure and the Apex Harness both have the below features:

  • Y-shaped and non-restrictive
  • Third clip on the neck to ensure you don't have to squeeze it over your dog's head
  • Strength-tested and safe for all dogs and breeds
  • Inclusive sizing from Chihuahua - Great Danes and Mastiffs
  • Bold and bright designs
  • High quality materials
  • 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective trim for road safety and visibility at night

* approximate weight, variations depending on size

** NO harness is escape-proof, if this is your dog, please use a multi-way lead and attach to the collar as well as the harness
